Edit Bet: Can You Change a Bet Once It’s Been Placed?

Edit BetThere have been times that all punters would have wished they could go back in time and change their bet.

How often have we wagered on football games before the team news is announced, only to be left dumbfounded when a star player is rested or left on the substitutes bench?

Have you ever bet on a tennis game and your pick has seemingly picked up an injury, with the physio called on more than one occasion?

Have you ever thoroughly researched a horse race, only for your selection to behave badly in the parade ring? Or perhaps a heavy downfall has softened the ground, lowering the value of your bet?

In these situations, sometimes the cash out function comes to your rescue, but what if the errant pick is part of a multiple or acca, and you don’t want to lose the whole bet?

This is where the Edit Bet feature, offered by a handful of UK bookmakers comes in handy.

Can I Edit Live Bets?

The Edit Bet function gives you the power to change wagers that you have already placed. You can:

  • Add new selections
  • Remove selections you don’t want
  • Swap out selections for replacements

This would be a godsend in the examples outlined above, but can also be deployed in other ways too. Has there been a red card in a football match you’ve bet on, changing the game state entirely? With Edit Bet, you can remove that leg or swap it for another.

Maybe your acca is looking good, with a number of picks already in or at least looking good for the win. You could add extra legs to your bet, which of course increases your risk of losing but could also enhance your return, too.

You can increase your stake using Edit Bet and even change the nature of your coupon entirely – if you’d backed a treble, for example, you can act upon a change of heart by turning that into doubles or singles instead.

When Is Edit Bet Available?

Cash OutYou will only be offered the chance to edit your bet when all selections that are outstanding have a cash out value offered.

There’s a couple of things to consider here. When you edit your bet, the new stake will be equal to the current cash out value of your coupon unless you decide to alter your stake.

Sometimes you’ll change the type of bet you are placing too. If the cash out amount cannot be split across varied selections, your stake will be redistributed evenly across all legs. If that calculation means there’s a surplus, the difference will be refunded in your account.

Here’s another important caveat: when you edit a bet, all selections on your ‘new’ coupon will be at the current market odds – NOT those that you had initially taken.

So, if you have caught a bit of early value that has since steamed in, you may want to think twice before editing your bet.

How Do I Edit My Bet?

Edit Bet Instructions

The first thing you’ll need to do is locate your ‘my bets’ section, before accessing those that have cash out values available.

Tap the ‘edit bet’ button, and you’ll see a list of options displayed on screen. Click on a selection to swap it out, or hit the ‘x’ next to it to delete it from your bet entirely.

Tap on the bet type in order to change that from the list of available alternatives, and click on your stake if you want to increase it – type in your new stake as you wish.

To add new picks, just hit the ‘add selections’ button. You can then browse the available sports and markets, clicking the odds of those picks you want to include.

No matter what alterations you make, be sure to always click the ‘save changes’ and ‘confirm’ buttons as they appear on screen.

At the time of writing, only a handful of the mainstream UK bookmakers are offering Edit Bet.

But given how much value this can add to their customers’ betting experience, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see other bookmakers jump on board with Edit Bet in the future.
